POKOTABI / Miro
画廊喫茶ミロ
Tucked down an alley near Ochanomizu Station, Miro offers classic Neapolitan, Milanese spaghetti, homemade pudding, and customizable cream sodas amid Showa-era charm and gentle jazz.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Venturing deep into a narrow alley right outside JR Ochanomizu Station brings you to the understated sign of Miro. Founded in Showa 30 (1955), the classic kissaten is known as a favorite haunt of novelist Yukio Mishima, with Joan Miró prints lining the walls in a nod to the cafe's name. Soft jazz plays in the background, and laptop work is politely declined, leaving the room calm and unhurried—an inviting retreat to read a book or enjoy quiet conversation away from the station crowds.
On the savory side, longtime favorites include Neapolitan spaghetti made with pleasantly chewy thick noodles and the historic house-special Milanese. Diners can also opt for rich hayashi rice (hashed beef and rice) or the humble hot dogs beloved since the cafe's beginnings, available with cheese or spicy accents. Meal sets come with a beverage, allowing guests to pair their plate with coffee, tea, or even a glass of red or white lunch wine for a relaxed break.
For coffee breaks, the desserts take center stage, from a straightforward custard pudding crowned with a cherry to the fruit-laden Miro Pudding and lavish pudding à la mode. The gentle sweetness and egg richness of the pudding balance the traditional light acidity of the house blend coffee. The cream soda, available in green, red, blue, or purple, is served with a playful twist: soda is provided separately for diners to pour over the ice and ice cream at their table, brightening the room with color.
Tables are subject to a 90-minute seating limit, and payments are cash only. Because opening days are irregular, it is wise to check current hours on the cafe's official social media (such as X) before making the trip.
